EAST STROUDSBURG – Jamie Hunter scored the game's only goal 5:46 into the contest as Lock Haven handed No. 6-ranked East Stroudsburg University its first loss of the season by a 1-0 score in PSAC women's soccer on a rainy Saturday night at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
Dana Wozniak had nine saves overall and seven in the second half for Lock Haven (2-3-1, 2-3-1), which was outshot 13-3 in the second 45 minutes but made the early goal stand up.
Senior goalkeeper
Brittain Wagner, last week's PSAC Athlete of the Week, had six saves for ESU (5-1), which conceded just its second goal of the season after rallying from a 1-0 halftime deficit in a 2-1 (OT) win at Bloomsburg on Wednesday.
ESU was the final unbeaten, untied team in the PSAC and sits atop the conference standings with 15 points through the third weekend of action. Millersville (13 points, 4-0-1) has played one less game than ESU.
ESU's 5-0 start was tied for the second-longest winning streak start to a season in school history. It's also tied for the second-longest winning streak under seventh-year head coach
Rob Berkowitz, who saw teams win six straight in his first season in 2007, and five straight in both 2008 and 2009.
The Warriors host PSAC preseason favorite and defending NCAA Atlantic Region champion West Chester on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the first half of a doubleheader at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The Golden Rams (3-3) had lost three straight before posting wins over Lock Haven (1-0) and Bloomsburg (2-1) last week.
