ESU Volleyball Wraps Up Weekend at American International Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Freshman outside hitter Sydney Galoozis had a career-high 20 kills and junior Annabelle Charlton had her fourth triple-double of the season, but East Stroudsburg University dropped a five-set match to Southern Connecticut State in its final match of this weekend's women's volleyball tournament at American International.

The Warriors (5-7) fell to American International, Stonehill and Daemen in three sets in its first three matches, facing AIC and Stonehill on Saturday and Daemen on Sunday morning.

ESU, which opened PSAC play with a three-set win over Cheyney on Tuesday, heads to Erie this weekend for conference crossover play at Mercyhurst and Gannon. The Warriors will also face Slippery Rock and Gannon.

Galoozis' 20 kills came on 76 attacks and Charlton had 17 kills, 27 assists and 14 digs for her fourth triple-double of the year and eighth of her career. Senior Allye Preziosi had five kills, 27 assists and 16 digs, sophomore Maddie Hutchison had 25 digs and four aces, redshirt sophomore Haley Mork had 22 digs, junior middle blocker Elizabeth Higley had nine kills and junior outside hitter Shannon Hillsinger added seven.

ESU fought back from a set down against SCSU before falling 22-20 in the fifth and final set. Set scores were 17-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-16, 20-22.

Galoozis led ESU with 37 kills for the weekend, Charlton had 34 kills, 61 assists and 42 digs and Preziosi had 23 kills, a team-high 74 assists and 40 digs. Hutchison (56 digs, 7 aces) and Mork (51 digs) led the defense.

In ESU's first three matches:

AIC  (20-25, 20-25, 19-25) - Galoozis had eight kills and junior outside hitter Abby Welch had seven to lead the attack. Preziosi had five kills, 16 assists and 10 digs and Charlton had four kills, 11 assists and five digs. Hutchison contributed 14 digs.

Stonehill (19-25, 20-25, 19-25) - Charlton (6 kills, 16 assists, 6 digs) and Preziosi (7 kills, 13 assists, 6 digs) helped lead the offense, both setting and hitting. Higley had nine kills and junior outside hitter Abby Welch had six. Mork added nine digs.

Daemen (10-25, 16-25, 27-29) - Galoozis put down nine kills and Welch had six. Charlton ( 7 kills, 7 assists, 17 digs) led ESU in digs and Preziosi had six kills, 18 assists and eight digs. Mork had 12 digs.
