CLARION - Junior
Kayla Grossi shot a two-day score of 185 to lead East Stroudsburg University's women's golf team in its season opener at the Clarion Fall Invitational, held Sunday and Monday at Clarion Oaks Golf Club.
Grossi's 185 is a career-best by three shots in a 36-hole event. She shot 188 at West Chester in the spring.
Grossi was 51st of 74 golfers and ESU finished 13th of 13 teams. Sophomore
Bridget Simons shot 190 and was tied for 57th, followed by junior
Malene Frost (198) and freshman
Jen Jordan (266).
Gannon won the team title at 655, followed by Kutztown (666), WV Wesleyan (669), Mercyhurst (675), DIII Allegheny (689), Clarion (700), Notre Dame-Ohio (700), West Chester (702), West Liberty (705), Lake Erie (757), Alderson-Broaddus (758), Millersville (767) and ESU (839).
Seton Hill's Emily Hassey was the medalist at 154 for a one-shot victory over Gannon's Diana Munoz on the par-72, 5,863-yard course. Seton Hill held a two-shot team lead after Sunday's round but had a golfer withdraw on Monday, so the Griffins didn't factor into the team scoring.
ESU is back on the course on Tuesday at the Ursinus Invitational at Raven's Claw Golf Club.
