EAST STROUDSBURG – Sophomore forward Ally Roth scored the game-winning goal 2:43 into overtime, lifting East Stroudsburg University to a 4-3 win over No. 10-ranked Slippery Rock and a 2-0 start to its PSAC field hockey schedule on Saturday afternoon at Whitenight Field.

Roth's second goal of the game, on the second assist of the game from junior forward Gabrielle Seibert, gives the Warriors a 5-4 overall record and 2-0 mark in the PSAC after they opened conference action with a 3-1 win over Mercyhurst on Friday afternoon.

ESU led 2-1 at halftime before Slippery Rock sent the game to overtime on a goal by Lindsay Brown with 2:53 left in regulation.

Junior midfielder Katie Barbato scored for the second time in as many games, assisted by junior midfielder Becky Gagliardi, to give ESU an early lead 8:44 into the game.

Allison Shade tied it for Slippery Rock at the 15:22 mark of the first half, before Gagliardi put the Warriors ahead 2-1 just 11 seconds before intermission.

Brown pulled Slippery Rock even 3:22 into the second half, then Roth scored her first goal (assisted by Seibert) with about 20 minutes to play.

Sophomore goalkeeper Alexis Charles had eight saves for ESU, which had a 19-13 advantage in shots and a commanding 19-7 lead in penalty corners. Courtney Lee had 11 saves for Slippery Rock (3-5, 0-2), which fell 5-3 at Kutztown in its PSAC opener on Friday.

Roth pushed her season goal total to 11 after scoring three goals this week. She has scored in seven of ESU's first nine games of the season.

ESU hosts two-time defending NCAA Division II West Chester next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Whitenight Field. The Warriors fell at West Chester, 8-1, in a non-conference game last Saturday before going 3-0 this week, starting with a  5-1 win over Seton Hill on Tuesday.
