Chris Schneider and senior
Kim Wernerspach won individual titles and East Stroudsburg University captured both team championships at the Don Cathcart Invitational at Salisbury University on Saturday morning.
Schneider and Wernerspach both won their second titles in three meets this year, as both were victorious in the season opener at Fordham on September 7. Wernerspach was second and Schneider was 12th in a strong field at Kutztown two weeks ago.
Wernerspach had a time of 21:55.90 on the 6K course for a nine-second margin of victory over Rebecca Wakeley of Nyack. Sophomore
Chelsea Conover was fourth at 22:30.60, followed by junior
Chelsea Wootten (6th, 22:50.90), senior
Kim Lowry (10th, 23:09.90) and sophomore
Abby Ross (16th, 23:40.60). Conover has been ESU's #2 finisher in all three meets with Wootten and Lowry in the team's top five for the third week.
Schneider ran the men's 8K course in 25:01.30, 12 seconds faster than Tim Hartung of York. Junior
Steve Ruch ran third in 25:21.50, junior
Chris Ott was eighth (25:39.80), sophomore
Dan Davis 11th (26:11.80) and sophomore
Alex Zubko 15th (26:26.50). Schneider and Ruch have run 1-2 in all three meets this season and ESU's top five have been the same through the first month of the season.
The Warriors have just one more meet before the PSAC Championships on October 26 at Kutztown. They will travel to the Lehigh Valley for the DeSales Invitational on October 12.
