Shippensburg Edges ESU Wrestling, 21-16

SHIPPENSBURG – Shipensburg won key decisions at 125, 157 and 197 pounds to edge East Stroudsburg University, 21-16, in PSAC wrestling on Tuesday night at Heiges Field House.

Shippensburg's Evan Ramos came away with a 9-8 decision over ESU sophomore Tyson Searer at 197 in the only bout between regionally-ranked wrestlers. Ramos used a 1:04 advantage in riding time after a wild third period to emerge with the one-point victory. Ramos entered fourth in the region at 184 pounds, while Searer is ranked third at 197.

Jacob Nale secured the win for Shippensburg with a 10-4 decision over ESU freshman Tyler Richardson at 285 pounds.

The lead changed hands four times, culminating with Shippensburg's victory at 197, after ESU battled back from a 15-4 deficit through the 157-pound bout with three straight wins.

Redshirt senior Braden Turner, ranked No. 8 in DII, won a 7-1 decision over Brett Pastore at 165 to get the Warriors within 15-7. Redshirt senior Brendan McKeown (No. 5 in DII) won by forfeit at 174, and redshirt senior Luke DeLuise earned a 2-0 decision over Casey Hadash at 184 to put ESU in front, 16-15.

Freshman Joey Kratochvil was ESU's first winner with a 10-2 major decision of Chris Miller at 133 for his 10th win of the year.

Shippensburg's David Calambas won a 2-0 decision against ESU junior Anthony Marino at 125, and Mark Lentz posted a 4-3 decision over ESU redshirt sophomore Eric Howey at 157.

Ship won by major decision at 141 and technical fall at 149 to jump out to its 15-4 lead at the halfway mark.

ESU has two tough duals on deck this weekend. The Warriors host No. 20 Gannon on Friday, and travel to Delaware Valley, ranked No. 12 in Division III by d3wrestle.com and No. 24 by the NWCA, on Saturday.
