Turner Improves to 19-4, Highlighting ESU Wrestling at Mid-Atlantic Duals

ASHLAND, Ohio - Redshirt senior Braden Turner went 3-0 to improve to 19-4 on the season as East Stroudsburg University was 1-2 at the Mid-Atlantic Duals at Ashland on Sunday afternoon.

The Warriors opened with a 45-6 win over Tiffin before falling to a pair of nationally-ranked teams in No. 16 Ashland (27-15) and No. 8 Indianapolis (36-9).

Turner, ranked No. 8 in Division II at 157 pounds, remained in the 165-pound spot where he has wrestled all season and posted two wins by decision and another by forfeit.

His key victory was a 5-1 decision over Jeff Weiss of Indianapolis in his final bout of the day - a rematch of his 6-1 decision over Weiss in the finals of the Midwest Classic at UIndy on December 14. He also won a 4-2 decision over Jake Piatt of Ashland, and is 12-1 against DII competition this season.

Redshirt senior Brendan McKeown, a returning All-American ranked No. 5 at 174 pounds, returned to the mat for the first time since November 17 and won a 6-4 decision over Christopher Baker (Tiffin) in his only action of the day.

Freshmen Joey Kratochvil (133) and Ray Nicosia (157) both won by fall in ESU's victory over Tiffin. Redshirt freshman Marius Kola (141) won by decision in his first dual action, and redshirt junior Luke DeLuise (184) won a 13-12 decision.

Against Ashland, junior Anthony Marino (125) won by decision in his first bout of the year and Nicosia won a 4-2 decision at 157.

Nicosia and DeLuise were both 2-1 on the day. DeLuise won his final bout with a late second-period pin against UIndy to improve to 10-8 on the year.

Sophomore Tyson Searer (197) was the recipient of two wins by forfeit, and lost a 2-0 overtime decision against UIndy.

The Warriors return to dual action as they travel to Scranton on Wednesday.
