Desiree Claxton had 17 kills, including nine in the opening set, but East Stroudsburg University fell to West Chester in three sets in PSAC East women's volleyball on Thursday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.
West Chester (14-10, 5-9) outlasted the Warriors for a 28-26 win in the first set and won the final two sets, 25-19 and 25-17. Julia O'Brien had 13 kills and Lyndsey Iacobelli had 23 digs to lead the Golden Rams.
Claxton had 63 attacks, ESU's most in a three-set match under the current 25-point scoring system (since 2008). Her 17 kills are her third-most of the season for the Warriors (6-17, 2-13).
Senior
Annabelle Charlton had six kills, 25 assists and 16 digs and junior libero
Maddie Hutchison had 19 digs. Hutchison ranked fifth in the PSAC in digs per set (5.29) entering the night.
Senior outside hitter
Abby Welch added seven kills and freshman outside hitter
Erin Gloor had five kills and nine digs for ESU.
Hutchison moved into fourth at ESU with 1,310 career digs, passing April Mellott (1,302, 1999-02).
ESU travels to Philadelphia University for a non-conference match on Monday, and hosts Pitt-Johnstown and Lock Haven next weekend at Koehler Fieldhouse.
