Hess scored the game's opening goal 5:27 into the contest, and the score remained 1-0 over the next 50 minutes until ESU senior midfielder
Gabrielle Seibert tied the game at 1-1 on a goal with 14:34 remaining.
Hess scored on an assist from Rachel Dickinson in the extra session for Millersville (13-2, 9-2).
ESU (9-6, 7-4) just missed its second win over a No. 1-ranked team in the NFHCA poll in the last 11 seasons (since 2004), but fell to 1-14 against top-ranked squads.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Danielle Ard had 10 saves, one off her career-high, for the Warriors. Lauren Sotzin had three saves for Millersville, including a penalty stroke late in the second half.
Millersville had a 21-7 advantage in shots and 15-6 advantage in penalty corners. The Marauders held margins of 11-0 in shots and 7-0 in corners in the first half, and 3-0 in shots and 5-0 in corners in overtime. ESU was even in shots (7-7) and had a 6-3 edge in corners in the second half.
Seibert's goal, her third of the season and the 18th of her career, came on an assist from sophomore forward
Robin Stevenson.
ESU, currently fourth in the PSAC by a half-game over Slippery Rock (7-5), hosts IUP (6-8, 4-7) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The top six teams will advance to the postseason.
The Warriors have three PSAC games remaining as they look for a return trip to the PSAC Tournament, and their first back-to-back PSAC Tournament appearances since 2001-02.
