CLARION - Junior forward Sammi Jo Hughes had a hand in all three goals, scoring twice and assisting on the third, to lead No. 6-ranked East Stroudsburg University to a 3-0 win at Clarion in PSAC women's soccer on Wednesday night.

The Warriors (9-1, 8-1) won their ninth straight game, the second-longest streak in school history, and earned their sixth straight road win with a dominating performance, outshooting Clarion (3-7-1, 3-7-1) by a 44-5 margin - ESU's most shots and largest shot differential in at least 10 years.

Hughes scored 4:47 into the game, assisted by senior forward Courtney Keller, then added an unassisted goal in the 29th minute and assisted on freshman midfielder Sammi Ortiz's goal in the 31st minute.

Freshman goalkeeper Jules Harris had three saves for her third shutout in eight starts. Clarion's Laura Saussol was called on to make 17 saves as ESU held a 25-4 advantage in shots in the first half, and 19-1 in the second. The Warriors also had an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

ESU's No. 6 national ranking is tied for the highest in school history, and the third week the Warriors have been ranked in the top 10. They were also ranked No. 6 for one week last fall.

ESU entered the game as the PSAC leader with 2.33 goals per game and has a goal differential of 24-6 this fall. The Warriors have gone more than a month since their only loss, falling 1-0 to Kutztown in the season opener on September 4.

ESU extends a school record with its eighth straight PSAC win. The previous best was six straight wins in 1994, the PSAC's first season sponsoring women's soccer.

The Warriors' six straight road wins are also a single-season record. ESU won seven straight road games spanning the 1993 and 1994 seasons.

Hughes' goals are the 10th and 11th of her career, and her second and third of the season. She is one of six Warriors who have scored multiple goals this season along with Keller (5), sophomore back Laurel Neira (4), sophomore forward Brielyn Hackett (3), sophomore forward Hannah Gombos (2) and Ortiz (2).

ESU maintains pace with West Chester (9-1, 8-1) for the top of the PSAC standings with 24 points. The Warriors won 2-1 (2OT) at West Chester on September 30 on Hackett's goal with just over two minutes left.

West Chester won 2-1 at IUP (7-3-2, 7-3-1) on Wednesday. The Warriors host IUP in a key PSAC game on Saturday at 1 p.m., which will be followed by ESU football against Cheyney at 6 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

ESU's nine-game winning streak is the longest active streak in the PSAC. Edinboro (6-4-1, 6-4-1) has won six straight since an 0-4-1 start, including ESU's 2-0 win at Edinboro on September 10.
