EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore forward Brielyn Hackett scored the game's only goal in the 71st minute, giving No. 3-ranked East Stroudsburg University a 1-0 win over California and its first-ever PSAC women's soccer regular season title on Saturday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

ESU (17-1, 15-1) will be the No. 1 seed in next week's PSAC Tournament and will host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday. The top remaining seed following the quarterfinals will host the semifinals and finals on Friday, Nov. 7 and Saturday, Nov. 8.

ESU's 17-game winning streak is the 2nd-longest in PSAC history behind only a 23-game winning streak by West Chester in 2006. The Warriors have won every game since falling 1-0 to Kutztown in their season opener on Sept. 4. Ten of the 17 victories have come by one goal, including both wins this weekend, and four have come in overtime.

ESU, under eighth-year head coach Rob Berkowitz, entered the weekend tied for first in the PSAC with West Chester with both schools 13-1 (39 points). ESU posted a 1-0 (2OT) win over Slippery Rock on Friday on a goal by sophomore midfielder Shea Neal with 5:10 remaining, while West Chester and California tied 1-1.

West Chester posted a 2-1 win over Slippery Rock in a noon game on Saturday, and ESU's game vs. California kicked off an hour later. The Warriors needed a win or a tie against Cal to secure the top seed.

ESU's pair of wins this weekend came against the defending NCAA DII Atlantic Regional champion (Slippery Rock) and defending PSAC champion (California).

The Warriors finish with 45 points, followed by West Chester (43), Kutztown (36), California (33), Slippery Rock (31) and Edinboro (29). The remaining two spots will be decided on Saturday night.

ESU had a 14-8 advantage in shots, including 11-6 in the second half, and broke through when senior back Lexie Peveraro, making her 72nd career start, lofted a ball from the left wing into the penalty area that Hackett knocked past Cal goalkeeper Meghan Jayes.

Hackett is one of four Warriors tied for the team lead with six goals entering the postseason along with Neal, senior forward Courtney Keller and sophomore back Laurel Neira.

Freshman goalkeeper Jules Harris made three saves to post her eighth shutout (seventh solo shutout) of the season in 15 starts. She lowered her goals against average to 0.47 and raised her save percentage to 0.892, allowing just seven goals and making 58 saves in 1331 minutes.

Harris' eight combined shutouts are tied for ESU's school record with Janine Turcio (2008) and Stacy Linzenbold (1997). Her seven solo shutouts are ESU's most since they are available (2003).

ESU has won two PSAC Tournament championships - 1994 and 1997 - and has finished second in the regular season four times (1994, 1997, 1998 and 2007 - PSAC East), but had not captured a regular season title until Saturday.

The Warriors were picked eighth in the PSAC preseason poll after placing ninth and missing the PSAC Tournament by two points in 2013. They graduated three senior starters in two-time All-PSAC goalkeeper Brittain Wagner, three-time All-PSAC center back Michelle Gogolen and forward Kerri McClay (13 career goals).

After the season-opening 1-0 loss to Kutztown, the Warriors have produced 15 consecutive PSAC victories - 2-0 at Edinboro, 1-0 vs. Mansfield, 2-1 at Gannon, 2-1 at Mercyhurst, 2-1 (OT) vs. Bloomsburg, 4-1 at Lock Haven, 2-1 (OT) at West Chester, 3-0 at Clarion, 3-0 vs. IUP, 3-2 at Millersville, 1-0 (OT) vs. Shippensburg, 2-1 vs. Seton Hill, 5-0 at Pitt-Johnstown, 1-0 (2OT) vs. Slippery Rock and 1-0 vs. California.
