WomenSLIPPERY ROCK - Sophomore
Allison Decker finished 10th and junior
Chelsea Conover was 11th to earn All-Region honors as East Stroudsburg University's cross country teams competed at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional on Saturday at Slippery Rock.
ESU's men's team placed 10th in a field of 22 schools and the women were 11th in a field of 25. The women were sixth and the men seventh at the PSAC Championships two weeks ago.
Decker, the PSAC runner-up, and Conover, who was sixth in the conference, just missed trips to the NCAA Division II Championship. The top three teams on each side, plus the next three runners on non-advancing teams, earn spots in the national field - Decker and Conover were the fourth and fifth non-advancing runners on Saturday.
Decker and Conover give ESU its eighth tandem of top-15 runners in the region since 1981. The most recent were Corinne Fitzgerald (fifth) and Rose Mascoli (eighth) in 2011.
Both runners earned their first career All-Region honors. Decker completed her first season at ESU after transferring from Division I Quinnipiac, and Conover was 34th in the region as a sophomore and improved on a 108th-place finish as a freshman.
