Warriors Wrestling Competes at Midwest Classic at UIndy

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Redshirt sophomore Marius Kola (133) won two matches and junior Tyson Searer (285) posted a victory, leading East Stroudsburg University the Midwest Classic at the University of Indianapolis on Saturday.

Kola had consolation wins over Asher Goodwin (UNC-Pembroke) and Jared Mestas (Lindenwood). Searer had a 10-0 major decision over MaShawn Knight of NAIA Brewton-Parker.

Three Warriors faced nationally-ranked wrestlers in their opening bouts, including Kola, who was pinned by No. 2 Michael Labry (Ashland) midway through the third period. Redshirt freshman Eric Januszkiewicz fell 7-0 to No. 8 Mike Screptock (Tiffin) at 141, and redshirt senior Luke DeLuise lost a 2-0 decision to No. 7 Blake Sorensen (Upper Iowa).

Through the first month of the season, Searer leads ESU with a 10-7 record, followed by sophomore Tyler Richardson (197) at 8-4.

ESU is idle until a trip to Tiffin (Ohio) on January 2, followed by the Ashland Duals on January 3.
