Gannon Tops ESU Women’s Basketball, 72-49

ERIE - Nettie Blake and Mollie Seybald scored 15 points each to lead Gannon to a 72-49 win over visiting East Stroudsburg University in PSAC women's basketball on Tuesday night at the Hammermill Center.
 
Senior guard Ryann Fiascki scored 18 points to lead ESU (2-6, 1-4), which jumped out to a 20-14 lead before Gannon (5-3, 4-1) responded to take a 38-28 halftime lead.

Fiascki, averaging 14.3 points per game, scored 15 in the first half for the Warriors. ESU was 8-for-9 from the field to open the game, with Fiascki scoring 11 of the Warriors' first 18 points.

Sophomore forward Allison Howard scored eight points and senior forward Jessica Martin had seven points for ESU. Junior guard Melissa Poderis added six points and four assists.

Blake (15 points, six rebounds), Sebald (15 points), Candice Hendricks (11 points) and Jennie Thies (10) were all in double figures for the Golden Knights, who are the two-time defending PSAC runner-up and were ranked No. 13 in the WBCA DII preseason poll.

Gannon broke the game open with a 19-2 run spanning halftime, using a 12-2 surge to break a 26-26 tie going into intermission.

ESU narrowed a 19-point deficit to 12 (52-40) with a 7-0 run midway through the second half, but Gannon came back with an 11-2 push in the next four minutes.

Gannon shot 46.2 percent (24-for-52) from the field, overcoming a 2-for-12 effort from the three-point line, and was 22-for-25 at the foul line while committing 18 turnovers.

ESU shot 31.3 percent (15-for-48) from the floor after its hot start and was 2-for-12 from long distance. The Warriors were 17-for-25 from the free throw line and had 24 turnovers.

ESU travels to Clarion (1-7, 0-4) on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles are coming off a 65-48 loss to Bloomsburg on Tuesday.
