ESU Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 17 Bloomsburg, 60-51

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior forward Jessica Martin scored a season-high 18 points, but East Stroudsburg University fell to No. 17-ranked Bloomsburg, 60-51, in PSAC East women's basketball on Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Bloomsburg (5-1, 3-0) had three players in double figures in Marla Simmons (11 points), Morgan Klunk (10) and Taylor Maldonado (10). Jocelyn Ford added nine points and eight rebounds.

ESU (2-4, 1-3) led 27-24 with 2:37 left in the first half before Bloomsburg closed with an 8-1 run to lead 32-28 at intermission.

The Huskies stretched their lead to 18 (50-32) midway through the second half before a layup by freshman guard Imani Brown (seven points) ended a stretch of more than 14 minutes without a field goal for the Warriors.

ESU closed the final margin to nine points, outscoring Bloomsburg 8-1 in the last four minutes.

Senior guard Ryann Fiascki, junior guard Tyeca Reviere and Brown all scored seven points for ESU.

The Warriors turned a 24-18 first-half deficit into a 27-24 lead with a 9-0 run in just under four minutes late in the period, getting a three-pointer from Brown and a layup from Reviere before senior forward Kelsey Murray gave ESU its only lead of the game with a layup with 3:51 left in the half.

Bloomsburg shot 18-for-42 from the field, 3-for-14 from the three-point line and 21-for-32 at the foul line, committing 22 turnovers.

ESU was 17-for-41 overall, 1-for-6 from long distance and 16-for-23 at the line with 24 turnovers.

The Warriors travel to Adelphi, ranked No. 16 in this week's WBCA DII poll, next Saturday (December 13). The Panthers are currently 8-0 and host Goldey-Beacom in their next action on December 11.

ESU's next PSAC action comes in western Pennsylvania with games at Gannon on December 16 and Clarion on December 17. ESU hosts Pitt-Johnstown in its next home game on Saturday, December 20.

* Martin moved into 7th at ESU in career rebounds (676).
* Martin ranks 2nd at ESU in career blocks (224) and is 15 blocks from the school record of 239 held by Sue Richards (1982-85).
* She ranks 9th in PSAC history in career blocks.
