CHEYNEY - Freshman forward Allison Howard had 18 points and seven rebounds, junior forward Jessica Martin had 17 points and nine boards and East Stroudsburg University (14-11, 9-6) secured its first winning women's basketball season since 2006-07 with a 72-65 win at Cheyney on Saturday at Cope Hall.

Howard added four assists, five steals and three blocks while Martin came up one rebound shy of her 11th double-double of the season. The Warriors shot 50.0 percent from the field while holding Cheyney (4-20, 4-11) to 34.0 percent and forcing 25 turnovers.

ESU remains tied for fourth in the PSAC East with Millersville (14-11, 9-6) going into the final game of the regular season on Wednesday night, which will determine the venue for their #4/#5 game in the first round of the PSAC Tournament.

ESU hosts West Chester, while Millersville travels to Shippensburg. The Marauders hold the tiebreaker with an 80-74 win at first-place Bloomsburg in their PSAC East opener on November 20.

The Warriors led 45-31 at halftime, their highest-scoring first half since netting 45 in a PSAC quarterfinal win over Mansfield in 2006-07.

ESU stretched its lead to 15 early in the second half before Cheyney rallied to pull within six (64-58) with 3:08 remaining.

Senior guard Halie Cintron (13 points) hit a key three-pointer with 2:25 left to stem the tide, and Howard had a putback for her final points with 53.0 seconds left as the Warriors stayed in front.

Junior guard Ryann Fiascki and sophomore guard Helena Gemmell added eight points each for the Warriors.

Kiara Whitley-Duncan scored 27 points and Kyra Hines-Allen had 20 for 47 of Cheyney's 65 points on the afternoon.

Martin had 14 points and seven rebounds at halftime, including six points in an 11-0 run to close the half. ESU jumped out to a 15-6 lead before Cheyney scored 12 straight to get back in it.

The Warriors host West Chester on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The Golden Rams (17-8, 12-3) are second in the PSAC East and did not play on Saturday after falling 66-58 at Bloomsburg on Wednesday. West Chester won the first meeting, 83-68, on January 25.

GAME NOTES
* ESU's 2006-07 team finished with a 25-4 record, a school record for victories.

* Howard (18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, 3 blocks) is the first Warrior to hit all of those numbers since at least 2002-03.
