YORK – Senior Allison Schafer lowered her own school record in the 1650 free in her final individual race as East Stroudsburg University finished ninth at the 2014 PSAC Swimming Championships, which concluded Sunday in York.

Schafer swam a time of 17:50.50 in the morning session, lowering her record from 17:57.98 at the Pace Invitational in December. She was sixth after the morning and placed 13th overall after the top eight seeds competed on Sunday night.

ESU was 11th in the 400 free relay in the evening session, with juniors Karoline Vavra and Danielle Davis, Schafer and junior Shelby Stalnaker finishing in 3:38.85.

ESU finishes ninth of the PSAC's 13 schools for the second straight year. Last season's ninth-place finish was the Warriors' best since placing sixth in 2001 and 2002.

In Sunday's prelims, Vavra was 17th in the 100 free in 53.39, just missing a spot in the consolation finals. Junior Jamie Kane was 19th in the 200 breast (2:30.50) after placing 16th in the 100 breast on Saturday.

West Chester won its eighth straight PSAC championship with 893 points for a comfortable margin over runner-up IUP (490). They were followed by Edinboro (365), Bloomsburg (363), Gannon (327), California (305), Shippensburg (267), Clarion (260), ESU (104), Millersville (92), Lock Haven (82), Kutztown (71) and Mansfield (40).

Schafer finishes her career with five school records, all set this year. She lowered her own records in the 1650 free and 1000 free (10:27.96) at the PSAC Championships, and also holds records in the 200 free (1:57.14), 500 free (5:09.46) and 200 fly (2:12.76), along with a spot on ESU's top 800 free relay.

Schafer had two of ESU's three individual scoring performances, placing eighth in the 1000 free on Thursday and 13th in the 1650 free. Kane was 16th in the 100 breast.

ESU's top-placing relays were the eighth-place 200 medley and 400 medley.

The Warriors set four school records in the last four days – Schafer in the 1000 and 1650 free, the 800 free relay of Schafer, Davis, sophomore Cyndi Kline and Vavra on Saturday night, and Stalnaker in the 50 back (28.07) on the first leg of the 200 medley relay on Thursday night.
