Warriors Wrestling Pulls Out 19-18 Decision at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE - East Stroudsburg University used its strength in the upper weights to rally from a double-figure deficit for the second straight dual, pulling out a 19-18 win at Millersville on Thursday night at Pucillo Gymnasium.

ESU trailed 15-4 through the 157-pound bout, getting a 12-3 major decision from junior Anthony Marino at 125 pounds, before ripping off four straight wins from 165 through 197 to take control.

No. 2-ranked Braden Turner (165) started the push with a 4-2 decision over Zach Pincus, getting a takedown 19 seconds into the sudden victory period. Turner improved to 26-5 on the season, 12-1 in duals and 18-1 against Division II competition.

At 174, No. 5 Brendan McKeown won by technical fall, 21-5, to get ESU within 15-2. McKeown (12-2, 9-0 duals) had his third straight dual win by technical fall.

Redshirt junior Luke DeLuise (184) put ESU ahead 16-15 with a 10-0 major decision over Nick Mancini, improving to 15-11 on the year and 8-5 in duals.

Sophomore Tyson Searer won a key 7-1 decision over Elijah Fisher at 197 pounds to give the Warriors a 19-15 cushion. Searer moves to 13-8 on the season with a 10-3 dual mark.

Millersville needed a bonus-point victory at 285, but Aram Moffitt only managed an 8-5 decision over ESU senior Frank Marinucci as the Warriors prevailed.

Millersville won by decision from 133 through 149 and gained a forfeit at 157 to post its 15-4 advantage through the first half of the dual.

ESU has a 12-day break before hosting nationally-ranked Kutztown on Tuesday, February 18 at Koehler Fieldhouse. The dual will mark the Warriors' final action before the NCAA Division II Super Region 1 championships, which will set the region's three national qualifiers at each weight for the NCAA Championships.
