Millersville Edges ESU Lacrosse in Overtime, 16-14

MILLERSVILLE – Senior midfielder Nicole Miller scored five goals, including East Stroudsburg University's final three of the game, but Millersville tied it with nine seconds left in regulation and earned a 16-14 (OT) win in PSAC lacrosse on Tuesday afternoon.

Neither team led by more than two goals in a back-and-forth game, as the Marauders (4-2, 1-1) led 7-5 late in the first half and then scored the final three goals in overtime.

Miller and sophomore attack Kaitlynn Wiltraut (three goals) led the way for ESU (6-1, 1-1), which ended an unbeaten start that included a 14-3 win over Kutztown in its PSAC opener on Saturday.

Brooke Fisher scored six goals for Millersville, tying the game with a free position shot with nine seconds left in regulation and putting Millersville ahead 15-14 with 2:11 remaining. Hannah Vogel (three goals, three assists) scored the game's final goal with three seconds left.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jessica Maxwell, who entered as the PSAC leader in save percentage, had 13 saves on 43 shots by Millersville. Her counterpart, Kaitlin Crouthamel, made nine saves for the Marauders.

Sophomore attack Lauren Nunes and redshirt freshman midfielder Jamie Zimmer both scored two goals, and sophomore midfielder Annastasia Porpora and freshman attack Lauren Green added a goal each for ESU.

The Warriors trailed 8-7 at halftime, and scored the first two goals for the second half (Nunes, Wiltraut) to take a 9-8 lead with just over 20 minutes left.

ESU and Millersville traded goals the rest of the way, with Miller scoring with 47 seconds left to give ESU a 13-12 lead before Fisher tied it for the Marauders.

Miller put the Warriors ahead 14-13 on a free position shot 24 seconds into the five-minute overtime, but Millersville scored the final three goals.

ESU hosts Mercyhurst and Gannon on Friday and Saturday at Whitenight Field. Both games start at 3 p.m.
