MILLERSVILLE – Junior 1B Cara McNeil's two-run triple sparked a four-run seventh inning as East Stroudsburg University rallied past Millersville for a 5-4 win in the nightcap and a doubleheader split in PSAC East softball on Tuesday afternoon.

Millersville (14-10, 4-2) won the opener, 5-2, scoring four runs in the sixth inning after ESU opened an early 2-0 lead.

ESU (6-13, 1-3) picked up its first PSAC East win of the season after dropping a doubleheader to Bloomsburg at King (Tenn.) in its previous action on March 22. All three doubleheaders last week were postponed.

Two Millersville errors opened the floodgates for four ESU runs in the top of the seventh in game two, which the Warriors trailed 4-0 through five innings.

ESU scored one in the sixth on an RBI single by junior OF Cara Woods before leaving the bases loaded, but came through in the next inning.

Freshman SS Rae Holden and junior OF Kasey Meckes both reached on errors, and senior catcher Rebecca Smith hit a one-out RBI single to get ESU within 4-2. McNeil followed with her game-tying triple, and scored on a base hit by sophomore OF Sierra Wagner.

Sophomore Allison Mende threw her first career complete game for ESU, allowing four runs on nine hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

ESU travels to Lock Haven for PSAC East action on Wednesday, then hosts West Chester on Friday and Kutztown on Saturday in its first home games of the season this weekend.  UPDATE: ESU hosts Lock Haven on Wednesday at 3 p.m., and will travel to LHU on April 15.

Game 1 – L 5-2

Maria Spinosa hit a three-run homer for Millersville in the bottom of the sixth inning, as the Marauders scored four runs, all with two outs, to overcome a 2-1 deficit.

ESU scored in the first inning as junior 2B Jamie Smith and McNeil drew walks, and Wagner doubled to left field to bring Smith around to score.

An RBI groundout by Wagner plated Rebecca Smith in the third and gave ESU a 2-0 lead. The Marauders got a run back in the bottom half as Spinosa singled, moved up on a walk and base hit, and scored on an error.

Senior Laura Suits allowed five runs (four earned) on 10 hits in 5.2 innings in the circle for ESU. Rebecca Smith had two of the Warriors' five hits.

Brianna Andraos (7.0 IP, 2 runs, 5 hits, 7 strikeouts, 2 walks) was the winning pitcher for Millersville.

Game 2 – W 5-4

ESU trailed 4-0 going to the top of the sixth before rallying past the Marauders.

All four Millersville runs in the second inning were unearned before Mende got out of the inning. She allowed just five hits the rest of the way.

ESU cashed in on Millersville's errors in the seventh, and Andraos (6.1 IP, 5 runs, 1 earned, 8 hits, 5 walks) was relieved by Ashley Cantiello after Wagner's go-ahead single.

ESU had nine hits, with Rebecca Smith going 2-for-4 in the nightcap and 4-for-7 with three runs in the doubleheader. Wagner and Woods also had two hits each.

McNeil continues to hit above .400 (.429, 24-for-56) after going 2-for-5 on Tuesday. She also leads the Warriors with seven extra-base hits and 19 RBI.
