KUTZTOWN - Kutztown clinched a spot in next week's PSAC Women's Tennis Tournament with a 5-4 win over East Stroudsburg University on Thursday afternoon at Keystone Courts.
Kutztown (9-6, 4-2) won at first through third singles and No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to edge ESU (7-6, 2-4), which finishes fifth in the division pending remaining matches for West Chester and Millersville against Shippensburg. A victory would have forged at least a two-way tie between ESU, Kutztown and potentially Millersville for the third playoff spot. Bloomsburg and West Chester also advance to the postseason.
ESU won 8-6 at No. 2 doubles (senior
Annie Vega and freshman
Brianne Wood). Vega won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, freshman
Amber Jadus won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and junior
Taylor Presby won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Kutztown's Hannah Pipkin won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and teamed with Tori Zander for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Zander and Chelsea Davis posted wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles for KU.
ESU finishes the season with two non-conference matches, on Monday at Georgian Court and Tuesday, April 22 at King's.
