Laura Suits threw a two-hit shutout in the nightcap after East Stroudsburg University won on a walk-off wild pitch in the opener, sweeping a doubleheader (5-4, 2-0) against Lock Haven in PSAC East softball on Wednesday afternoon at Zimbar Field.
ESU (8-13, 3-3) rallied past the Lady Eagles (6-17, 1-7) in game one, trailing 4-3 going into the seventh before an infield single and double by junior 1B
Cara McNeil tied the game at 4-4. McNeil advanced to third on the play at the plate, then scored on a wild pitch to plate the winning run.
Suits surrendered just a pair of two-out base hits – in the first and seventh innings – and retired 18 consecutive batters in between in the nightcap. She was the winning pitcher in both ends of the doubleheader, entering in the seventh inning of game one. Suits threw her third shutout of the season and fifth of her career for the Warriors.
ESU hosts West Chester on Friday and Kutztown on Saturday as part of a six-game homestand to open the Warriors' home schedule at Zimbar Field.
Game 1 – W 5-4ESU jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning, and it was tied 3-3 through three before both teams finished their scoring in the seventh.
Junior OF
Cara Woods had an RBI single in the first as ESU scored two runs on four hits before leaving the bases loaded. Lock Haven got both runs back in the second on a homer by Chelsea Edwards, then took a 3-2 lead with an unearned run in the third.
The Warriors tied it in the bottom of the third, and only Lock Haven really threatened to break the tie in the fifth before taking the lead in the seventh on a two-out RBI single by Sarah Schwalm.

Jamie Smith reached on an infield single and was erased on a fielders choice by senior C
Rebecca Smith, who represented the tying run at first base with two outs. McNeil came through with a double – after hitting the game-tying two-run triple in the seventh of a win at Millersville on Tuesday – then scampered home on a wild pitch for the game-winner.
Freshman
Rachael Liguori (6.2 IP, 4 runs, 3 earned, 7 hits) got the start in the circle for ESU before Suits came on in the seventh.
McNeil (2-for-3, RBI, 2 runs), Woods (2-for-3, RBI, run) and
Jamie Smith (2-for-4) combined for six of ESU's eight hits.
Game 2 – W 2-0Suits was dominant in the circle with a season-high seven strikeouts, and ESU scored both of its runs in the fourth inning.

Sierra Wagner hit a one-out double, Woods singled back to the pitcher and stole second to put two runners in scoring position. Sophomore 3B
Haley Thomas belted a two-run single to break the scoreless tie.
Woods had two of ESU's five hits and was 4-for-6 on the day to raise her batting average to .387 (24-for-62). McNeil continues to lead the Warriors with a .419 average (26-for-62) and has a team-high 20 RBI.
