Jules Harris made four saves for her first career shutout, as East Stroudsburg University posted a 2-0 road shutout at Edinboro in PSAC women's soccer on Wednesday afternoon.
Gombos scored an unassisted goal in the 12th minute and Scheidell scored her first career goal on an assist from senior forward
Courtney Keller in the 33rd minute for the Warriors, who recorded their first win over Edinboro since 2005.
ESU (1-1), coming off a 1-0 loss to Kutztown in its season opener last Thursday, gained a key PSAC road win over the Fighting Scots (0-2-1), picked fifth in the PSAC preseason poll. Edinboro fell 2-1 (OT) to Gannon and tied Mercyhurst, 2-2, last weekend.
Harris had five saves in ESU's loss to Kutztown last week and had two saves in each half against Edinboro. The Warriors were outshot 13-12 in the game, but had an 11-4 advantage in the first half before Edinboro outshot ESU, 9-1, after halftime.
Gombos' goal was the second of her career. Scheidell, who sat out last season after transferring from Division I Temple, added the insurance goal off the bench.
ESU hosts Mansfield on Saturday at 1:30 p.m., the middle game of a tripleheader at Eiler-Martin Stadium. Men's soccer hosts St. Thomas Aquinas at 11 a.m, and football welcomes Slippery Rock for its home opener at 6:05 p.m.
The Warriors head back to northwestern PA next weekend, traveling to Gannon on Friday (Sept. 19) and Mercyhurst on Saturday.
