Late Goal Gives #2 Shippensburg 2-1 Win over #8 ESU Field Hockey

SHIPPENSBURG - Tori Ricker scored the game-winning goal with 4:17 remaining, lifting No. 2-ranked Shippensburg to a 2-1 win over No. 8 East Stroudsburg University in PSAC field hockey on Saturday afternoon.
 
Senior midfielder Becky Gagliardi tied the game at 1-1 for ESU with 12:00 left before Ricker's game-winner for Shippensburg, the defending NCAA Division II champion.
 
Molly Stuart gave Shippensburg (3-1, 1-1) a 1-0 halftime lead with a goal 27:26 into the game.
 
ESU (2-2, 1-1) had a 15-6 advantage in shots, including an 8-1 margin in the second half. Ally Mooney had five saves for Shippensburg and sophomore Danielle Ard made two saves for the Warriors.
 
Shippensburg improved to 20-3 against ESU since 2002, with six of the wins by a single goal. ESU's last win was a 2-1 victory in the PSAC semifinals in 2010.
 
The Warriors travel to IUP for a PSAC game on Wednesday.

* ESU is 4-38 against teams ranked in the top 3 of the NFHCA DII poll since 2004.
* ESU is 5-32 against defending NCAA DII champions. The last win was a 3-2 victory at Bloomsburg in 2010.
