ESU Volleyball Finishes Weekend with 3-1 Win over Pace

EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior outside hitter Abby Welch had a season-high 20 kills and senior Annabelle Charlton added seven kills, 20 assists and 19 digs to lead East Stroudsburg University to a 3-1 win over Pace in the Warriors' final match of this weekend's invitational at Koehler Fieldhouse.

ESU fell to Barry (3-0), Southern New Hampshire (3-2) and Bloomfield (3-1) in its first three matches to finish the weekend with a season record of 4-4, going into the first weekend of PSAC action on September 19-20.
 
Welch paced the Warriors with 57 kills in four matches. Her 20 kills against Pace were two off her career-high of 22 set last fall.

Junior libero Maddie Hutchison exceled defensively for the Warriors with 85 digs in 16 sets. She is third in the PSAC with 5.74 digs per set through the first two weeks of the season. Hutchison moved into 7th at ESU with 1,109 career digs.
 
Charlton turned in her 10th career triple-double on Saturday night against Southern New Hampshire with 10 kills, 23 assists and 18 digs. She had 29 kills, 82 assists and 57 digs on the weekend.
 
Claxton had 35 kills and 38 digs on the weekend, and sophomore Sydney Galoozis added 31 kills. Freshman Erica Cunningham had 53 assists.

The Warriors had 31.0 total blocks with senior Elizabeth Higley and sophomore Hanna Bergen both recording one block solo and 14 block assists.
 
The Warriors face Slippery Rock, Edinboro, Mercyhurst and Gannon next weekend at West Chester.
 
 
Barry - L 3-0 (16-25, 24-26, 13-25)

Welch and freshman Desiree Claxton led the Warriors with seven kills each and Hutchison had 13 digs against Barry (Fla.), which went 4-0 this weekend. ESU had 13 kills and just six attack errors in pushing the second set to 26-24.
 
 
Southern New Hampshire - L 3-2 (19-25, 25-14, 19-25, 26-24, 10-15)

Charlton had a triple-double and four Warriors registered 10+ kills in the five-set match - Welch (15), Claxton (12 kills, 13 digs), Galoozis (11) and Charlton.

Hutchison had 31 digs, her third match with at least 30 digs this season. Redshirt junior Haley Mork added 11 digs and Cunningham had 14 assists.
 
 
Bloomfield - L 3-1 (16-25, 21-25, 25-18, 22-25)
 
Welch (15 kills), Claxton (11) and Galoozis (9) led the Warriors' hitters. Charlton had six kills, 28 assists and 14 digs and Hutchison added 18 digs along the back line.
 
 
Pace - W 3-1 (25-19, 25-14, 23-25, 25-20)
 
Welch had more than half (20 of 39) of Warriors' kills in their fourth win of the season. Charlton had seven kills, 20 assists and 19 digs and Hutchison provided 23 digs.
