Decker, Lederer Pace ESU Cross Country at Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. - Junior Allison Decker won the women's 5K race and junior Alec Lederer was fourth in the men's 8K race, leading East Stroudsburg University's cross country teams at the Hamilton College Invitational on Saturday.

ESU's women finished first of 14 schools and the men were second of 15 in their final preparations for the PSAC Championships, which will be held October 24 at Slippery Rock.

Decker won in a time of 17:09.6 for a 16-second margin of victory over Ruth Burrowes (Ottawa). Senior Caitlin Perry (5th - 17:59.4), sophomore Kaylyn West (7th - 18:05.6), senior Chelsea Conover (9th - 18:10.1) and sophomore Samantha Young (13th - 18:25.2) also finished in ESU's top five.

Lederer was fourth in 25:46.4, followed by senior Alex Zubko (5th - 25:48.6), senior Steve Ruch (9th - 26:07.1), junior Anthony Ruiz (14th - 26:43.5) and sophomore Jeremy Rapposelli (16th - 26:49.5) in the men's field.

Decker won for the third time in four meets this year, also taking titles at Fordham and UMass Dartmouth. She was third in the Paul Short Run "brown" division at Lehigh on October 2.

Decker was second and Conover was sixth in last year's PSAC Championships, with ESU's women finishing sixth of 17 schools.

Lederer is the top men's returner (39th) from last year's meet. Ruch returned to the team this year after placing 24th in 2013. ESU's men were seventh of 15 in the PSAC last fall.
