SCRANTON - East Stroudsburg University won the first four bouts and junior
Tyler Richardson won a key major decision at 197 pounds, giving East Stroudsburg University a 19-18 win at Scranton in non-conference wrestling on Wednesday night.
Redshirt freshman
Collyn Dorney (125 - 11-2 major decision), redshirt junior
Marius Kola (133 - 11-4 decision), redshirt freshman
Dylan Nace (141 - 9-0 major decision) and redshirt freshman
Blake Cohen (149 - 8-0 major decision) staked ESU to a 15-0 lead, before Scranton won the next four bouts with one pin and three decisions to knot it at 15-all.
Richardson used a late takedown for a 12-3 major decision at 197 to give ESU a 19-15 advantage. Scranton won by decision at 285. A decision in Richardson's bout would have given Scranton an 18-18 tie and the victory by criteria by virtue of recording the only fall of the night.
Dorney improved to 7-3 overall (2-1 duals) with his major decision over Nicholas DiPierro. Kola moved to 2-0 overall and in dual action at 133.
Nace, the 141-pound champ at Springfield's Doug Parker Invitational in his last action on November 21, stayed unbeaten at 6-0. Cohen won his ESU debut at 149.
Scranton's Ian Evans won an 8-2 decision over junior
Joey Kratochvil at 157, and Zachary D'Apolito had a second-period fall vs. redshirt freshman
Vickson Krah at 165.
Kevin Merle had a 7-3 decision vs. senior
Colin Martucci at 174 and Daniel D'Agostino had a 4-2 decision vs. junior
Brandon Steele at 184.
Richardson, a 2015 national qualifier, improved to 6-2 on the year with his major decision at 197.
At 285, Eric Calimano won a 5-0 decision over ESU senior
Tyson Searer, who dropped his career dual record to 36-9.
The Warriors travel to Erie for the PSAC Championships on Saturday at Mercyhurst University.
