Edinboro Holds Off ESU Women's Basketball, 74-67

EAST STROUDSBURG - Junior forward Allison Howard had 19 points and 13 rebounds, but Edinboro held on for a 74-67 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC women's basketball on Friday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

MIchelle Jahn had 22 points to lead Edinboro (8-2, 4-1).

Freshman guard Noelle Powell added a season-high 13 points and senior guard Tyeca Reviere had 10 points, five rebounds and four assists for ESU (1-7, 0-5).

Howard recorded her sixth career double-double, her first of the season, and had season-highs in points (19) and rebounds (13) for the Warriors, who led 40-37 at halftime.

Aignee' Freeland had 15 points and eight rebounds, Whitney Allen seven points and 14 rebounds and Katie Fischer six points and 10 assists for Edinboro.

The Warriors used an 8-0 run late in the first half, including a three-pointer by Powell, to build a 38-31 lead. Jahn hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut Edinboro's deficit to three.

ESU pushed its lead back to five early in the third quarter, but Edinboro had a 10-0 run, sparked by two three's by Fischer, to go in front 52-46 at the four-minute mark.

The Warriors came back with three's by Howard and Powell to lead 54-53, but Jahn was fouled on a three-point attempt and made all three to go ahead 56-54 after three quarters.

ESU forced a pair of ties early in the fourth quarter but never led in the final 10 minutes. Jahn gave Edinboro the lead for good with a three-pointer at the 8:19 mark but ESU hung around, cutting a 70-62 margin to four points (70-66) with a putback by Boggs, a steal by Howard and jumper by Reviere with 57 seconds left.

The Warriors got the ball back and Howard made one-of-two at the line to get it to one possession (70-67) with 34 seconds left, but Allen and Freeland both made two free throws down the stretch to keep Edinboro in front.

ESU limited the Fighting Scots to 38.5 percent (25-for-65) from the field and 8-for-25 from he three-point line.

ESU shot 34.9 percent (22-for-63) and made 6-of-20 from long distance, including 3-for-5 from Powell.

Sophomore guard Imani Brown had nine points, all in the first half, and junior guard Rachel Falkowski added six points and six rebounds for the Warriors.

ESU hosts Mercyhurst (3-6, 2-3) on Saturday at 2 p.m. after the Lakers fell 66-61 (2OT) at Bloomsburg on Friday night.
