ESU Women's Basketball Wins 69-54 at Mansfield, Clinches PSAC Tournament Berth

MANSFIELD - Senior forward Jessica Martin had 12 points and 11 rebounds for her third straight double-double in East Stroudsburg University's 69-54 win at Mansfield as the Warriors secured a PSAC Tournament berth on Saturday.

ESU (11-14, 10-11) gained its PSAC Tournament bid at halftime as Millersville fell to Bloomsburg, putting the Warriors in the postseason for the third straight year.

The Warriors host Kutztown (10-15, 9-12) on Wednesday to finish the regular season. ESU is currently tied with Lock Haven (11-14, 10-11) for the No. 4 seed entering the final day of the regular season. Lock Haven, which upset Shippensburg 72-70, ends the year at first-place Bloomsburg (22-3, 19-2).

The No. 4 seed will host a first-round home game on Saturday, February 28.

Sophomore forward Allison Howard had 10 points and six rebounds and senior guard Ryann Fiascki scored eight points in her return to the floor after missing 13 games due to injury since January 3. Fiascki led ESU with 12.9 points per game through the first 12 games.

Junior guard Tyeca Reviere had seven points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals and junior guard Helena Gemmell and redshirt senior guard Andrea Veres also had seven points for ESU.

Becky Evans scored 18 points and Tianna Jackson and Alyssa DeRichie both had nine for Mansfield (3-22, 2-19).

ESU won the second half, 35-20, after playing to a 34-34 tie at halftime. The Warriors closed the first half on a 9-2 run, hitting three three-pointers in the final two minutes.

ESU opened the second half with another 9-2 spurt and led throughout the period. The final 15-point margin was the largest of the game.

Both teams were hot from the three-point line in the first half, with ESU going 6-for-10 and Mansfield 5-for-7, including a 3-for-3 mark for Evans.

The Warriors held Mansfield to 1-for-10 with five turnovers in the first nine minutes of the second half.

Mansfield finished shooting 31.4 percent (16-for-51) and 7-for-12 from the three-point line. ESU shot 43.1 percent (25-for-58) and 6-for-13 from long distance.

Sophomore forward Madison Tamburini scored six of ESU's eight points in a key three-minute stretch midway through the second half, giving the Warriors a 51-41 lead with nine minutes left.

Mansfield closed within five at the eight-minute mark, but Martin scored two buckets to help push the lead back to double figures.

Martin had her sixth double-double of the season and the 27th of her career at ESU. She moved into eighth at ESU with 1,188 career points, ranks fourth with 833 rebounds and is fifth in PSAC history with 267 career blocks.
