ESU Women’s Basketball Falls at No. 17 Bloomsburg, 62-40

BLOOMSBURG - Marla Simmons had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Jocelyn Ford added 12 points, leading No. 17-ranked Bloomsburg to a 62-40 win over East Stroudsburg University in PSAC East women's basketball on Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field House.

Bloomsburg (19-2, 16-1) set a modern PSAC divisional record with its 24th straight win against a PSAC East school, closing the game on a 16-4 run after ESU pulled within 46-36 with 10 minutes left.

Junior guard Tyeca Reviere had nine points and seven rebounds, junior center Michelle Boggs scored seven points and senior forward Jessica Martin had six points and six rebounds to lead ESU (9-13, 8-10).

The Warriors are tied for fifth in the PSAC East with Millersville after Saturday's results. Bloomsburg is followed by West Chester, Shippensburg and Kutztown (9-9).

Bloomsburg shot just 35.0 percent (21-for-60) but had a 29-20 advantage in turnovers to pull away from the Warriors. ESU shot 30.0 percent (15-for-50) from the field. BU also had a +10 advantage (17-7) in scoring at the foul line.

Bloomsburg led 33-21 at halftime and scored the first 10 points of the second half before ESU put together a 15-3 run to close the margin to 10 with 10 minutes remaining.

Sophomore forward Madison Tamburini hit a three-pointer early in the stretch, then sophomore guard Rachel Falkowski scored two buckets, redshirt senior guard Andrea Veres hit a jumper in the lane and Falkowski set up Boggs for a layup.

Ford scored the next seven points for Bloomsburg, ending the run with a three-pointer that sparked a 12-0 run. Boggs' layup with 9:58 remaining was ESU's final field goal.

Martin finished the game with 800 career rebounds, fifth in school history. She ranks 10th in scoring (1,136) and holds ESU's record and ranks fifth in PSAC history in career blocks (260).

Junior guard Helena Gemmell had two steals to move into ESU's career top 10 (163).

ESU is idle on Wednesday and hosts Cheyney on Saturday, February 14 at 1 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse.
