ESU Softball Finishes Florida Trip with 5-4 Record

CLERMONT, Fla. - Sophomore Rachael Liguori threw a four-hit shutout against Bridgeport and East Stroudsburg University won two games by one run, finishing its trip to Florida with a 5-4 record last Friday.

Liguori blanked Bridgeport, 1-0, on Thursday for her second career shutout with junior OF Sierra Wagner plating the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh.

The Warriors fell to Hillsdale (Mich.), 9-1, on Friday as Danielle Steine took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and finished with a two-hitter, 14 strikeouts and no walks.

ESU outslugged NYIT for a 9-8 win in its final game on Friday. Senior 1B Cara McNeil (3-for-4, 3 RBI) hit a two-run homer in a five-run third inning for the Warriors. Liguori pitched a perfect seventh inning for the save.

Freshman 3B Mary Wallick leads the Warriors with a .393 average (11-for-28) and has three doubles, two triples, three RBI and six runs through the first nine games of the season.

Five other ESU regulars - Wagner (.333, 9-for-27), McNeil (.333, 9-for-27), senior OF Kasey Meckes (.333, 7-for-21), senior 2B Jamie Smith (.320, 8-for-25) and sophomore SS Rae Holden (.318, 7-for-22) are all hitting over .300.

ESU travels to Bowie State (Md.) for a doubleheader on Tuesday and is scheduled to host two PSAC East doubleheaders this weekend - Friday vs. Lock Haven (2:30 p.m.) and Saturday vs. Shippensburg (1 p.m.).
