Lauren Green had a career-high five goals and two assists, leading East Stroudsburg University to a 16-9 win at Kutztown in the PSAC lacrosse opener for both schools on Sunday afternoon.
Junior attack
Kaitlynn Wiltraut scored four goals for her fourth straight hat trick to open the season and junior attack
Lauren Nunes, the reigning PSAC Co-Athlete of the Week, had two goals and two assists for ESU (4-0, 1-0).
Taylor Sandin scored three goals to lead Kutztown (1-3, 0-1). ESU improved to 10-1 against KU since 2008.
ESU led 10-7 at halftime with Green scoring five goals, including the Warriors' first three.
Kutztown took a 6-5 lead with eight minutes left in the half, but ESU closed with four goals in the closing minutes of the period from freshman midfielder
Chessie Rahmer, Nunes, Wiltraut and Green.
The Warriors had a 6-0 run spanning halftime, taking a 14-7 lead with 15 minutes remaining while holding Kutztown scoreless for more than 20 minutes.
Freshman attack
April Jones scored two goals and Rahmer, sophomore attack Kristin Caprio and junior midfielder
Annastasia Porpora also scored for the Warriors. Redshirt sophomore midfielder
Jamie Zimmer had two assists.
Sophomore
Emily Fitzsimmons, making her first career start in goal, had nine saves for ESU. Abby Cox made eight saves for Kutztown.
The Warriors held a 28-23 advantage in shots and an 18-9 margin in draw controls.
Green's seven points equaled her season total (six goals, one assist) through the first three games of the season.
Nunes had 14 goals and nine assists through four games, while Wiltraut has a team-high 16 goals and two assists.
ESU hosts Millersville (2-3, 0-1) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Whitenight Field. The Marauders fell to No. 7-ranked Mercyhurst, 18-11, on Saturday.
