LOCK HAVEN - Sophomore Rachael Liguori threw her fourth shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory in the opener, and East Stroudsburg University notched a 4-3 (8 inn.) win in game two for a doubleheader sweep at Lock Haven in PSAC East softball on Monday afternoon.

Junior Allison Mende followed Liguori's performance with a strong game of her own, throwing her fifth straight complete game, as the Warriors posted their second extra-inning win in three days.

ESU (16-9, 9-5) hosts Lock Haven (9-17, 5-7) in the second half of this season's series on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Zimbar Field.

The Warriors rebounded after dropping a doubleheader to Millersville on Sunday, following a sweep at Millersville on Saturday (W 2-1 in 8 innings, W 8-0).

Freshman OF Katherine Liedberg had the key hit in the opener, a two-out, three-RBI double in the fourth inning.

Freshman 3B Mary Wallick was 2-for-4 with three RBI in the nightcap. She gave ESU a 2-0 lead with a two-RBI double in the second inning, and added an RBI single for an insurance run in the eighth inning for what proved to be the winning run.

GAME 1 - W 4-0

Liguori allowed just one runner to reach scoring position - coming in the first inning - as she earned her fourth shutout of the season and the fifth of her career.

The left-hander improved to 7-4 on the season, winning for the third time in four starts. She threw a complete game for the seventh time in eight starts (and the ninth time this season).

LHU managed just four hits in the contest.

ESU had seven hits, with three coming in the four-run fourth inning as the Warriors capitalized on a Lock Haven error.

Junior OF Sierra Wagner led off with a single, senior 1B Cara McNeil reached on an error with freshman Madison Oren (pinch-running for Wagner) advancing to second, and sophomore SS Rae Holden singled to load the bases.

Senior 2B Jamie Smith drew a walk to plate the first run, and after a pair of strikeouts, Liedberg belted a bases-clearing double for a 4-0 lead.

That was all the help Liguori would need. LHU had baserunners in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings, but never advanced past first base.

Wagner and senior OF Cara Woods had two hits each for ESU.

Rachel Mouillesseaux threw a complete game and didn't allow an earned run for LHU.

GAME 2- W 4-3 (8 inn.)

Mende won an extra-inning game for the second time in three starts, improving to 8-3 in the circle and 4-1 in her last five starts, all complete games.

Mende stranded runners in scoring position in both of the last two innings to secure the victory.

In the seventh, LHU had the game-winning run on second with one out, but Mende got a lineout back to the circle and a groundout to third to end the threat.

After ESU took a 4-2 lead in the eighth, LHU nearly rallied. A single, two-base error, walk and sacrifice fly made it 4-3, and a two-out double by Jessie Probst put the game-tying run on third base and the game-winning run on second before Mende struck out pinch-hitter Kayla Glossner to end the contest.

ESU took a 2-0 lead in the second inning as freshman catcher Heather Visco reached on an error, Liedberg walked and Wallick hit a two-RBI double.

LHU used a pair of two-out hits in the fourth inning, a single by Susan Janfrancisco, and the sixth, a single by Michelle Holweger, to tie the game at 2-2. The run in the sixth came after an ESU error to open the inning.

In ESU's half of the eighth, Holden walked and Smith reached on a fielders choice to start the inning. Junior Haley Thomas had a pinch-hit single to load the bases with one out, and Holden scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.

Wallick's two-out RBI single scored Smith for a 4-2 lead.

Wallick, ESU's leading hitter this season at .376, was 3-for-7 in the doubleheader in the leadoff spot.
