EAST STROUDSBURG - Sophomore Rachael Liguori won for the fourth time in five starts and junior Sierra Wagner was 3-for-3, leading East Stroudsburg University to a 5-2 win in the opener and a doubleheader split vs. Lock Haven on Tuesday afternoon at Zimbar Field.

Liguori, coming off a four-hit shutout in a 4-0 win at LHU on Monday, allowed just one earned run to improve to 8-4 on the season. She threw her eighth complete game in her last nine starts, and 10th of the season.

Wagner was 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI, hitting an RBI double to complete a three-run fourth inning that closed the scoring.

Lock Haven won the second game, 8-0, in six innings.

ESU (17-10, 10-6) solidified its hold on fourth in the PSAC East standings at just past the halfway point. The Warriors have 12 divisional games remaining and host PSAC East leader West Chester on Friday and third-place Kutztown on Saturday.

ESU was coming off a sweep at LHU on Monday, 4-0 and 4-3 (8 inn.), and took three of four games in the season series. Lock Haven (10-18, 6-8) is currently fifth in the PSAC East.

GAME 1 - W 5-2

Liguori lowered her season ERA to 1.24 in 16 games (12 starts) and 85.0 innings this spring, and ESU scored in three of the first four innings.

Sarah Schwalm homered to start the game for LHU, but the Bald Eagles would manage just an unearned run in the fourth inning the rest of the way.

ESU tied it at 1-1 in the second as senior 2B Jamie Smith hit her first career triple and scored on an RBI single by senior OF Cara Woods.

Senior OF Kasey Meckes and Wagner both singled to start the third inning, and Meckes scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore SS Rae Holden for a 2-1 lead.

LHU tied it at 2-2 in the top of the fourth, taking advantage of a leadoff error, but Liguori retired the final two batters of the inning with the go-ahead run on third base.

The Warriors broke the tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs on five consecutive hits.

Freshman catcher Heather Visco hit a one-out single to start the inning, followed by an RBI triple by freshman OF Katherine Liedberg for a 3-2 lead. Freshman 3B Mary Wallick followed with an RBI single, Meckes singled and Wagner drilled an RBI double to extend the advantage to 5-2.

LHU had baserunners in each of the last three innings off Liguori, but couldn't push anything across.

ESU had 11 hits, its most since collecting 11 in a 9-3 win in a sweep at Shippensburg on March 24.

Wagner had her second three-hit game of the season (also at Ship on March 24), Meckes had two hits and Visco had her first career multi-hit game.

GAME 2 - L 8-0 (6 inn.)

Lock Haven scored in four of its six innings at the plate and had 13 hits to avoid the series sweep.

Jessie Probst threw a seven-hit shutout for the Bald Eagles.

Junior Allison Mende, who had won four of her last five starts for ESU (all complete games) since April 1, threw 3.1 innings and fell to 8-4 on the season.

Junior Amanda Carlin pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing three runs (one earned).

LHU took a 1-0 lead in the third, then made it 6-0 in the fourth, including a two-run homer by Jodi Weaknecht. The Bald Eagles added unearned runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Wallick and senior 1B Cara McNeil were both 2-for-3 for ESU.

Wallick, Wagner and Meckes had three hits each in the doubleheader as the Warriors hit .360 for the afternoon. Wallick raised her team-leading batting average to .380 and scored her 18th run of the season.
