Haley Thomas hit a walk-off two-RBI double to give East Stroudsburg University a 5-4 victory in the opener and a doubleheader split vs. Kutztown in PSAC East softball on Saturday at Zimbar Field.
ESU (18-13, 11-9) rallied from a 4-1 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in game one. Kutztown (28-13, 14-9) posted a 5-1 win in game two.
Junior
Allison Mende threw 6.1 innings in relief to win the opener.
ESU knocked out Kutztown ace Savannah Nierintz (16-3) in the seventh inning, and scored all four runs off reliever Dominique Ficara, finishing with the walk-off double by Thomas.
Kutztown's Dominique Ficara scattered nine hits and stranded 10 ESU runners for the victory in game two.
Senior OF
Kasey Meckes was 5-for-8 overall and 4-for-4 in the opener to lead ESU offensively.
ESU celebrated its "Strike Out Cancer" Day. Former Warriors pitcher Jessica Ras, a survivor of leukemia, threw out the first pitch and was joined on the field by several cancer survivors who were in attendance. Proceeds from drinks, baked goods, t-shirts and other items will support the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance.
The Warriors travel to Bloomsburg (18-10, 13-5) for a key PSAC East doubleheader on Sunday. The Huskies split with PSAC East leader West Chester on Saturday.
GAME 1 - W 5-4ESU left nine runners on base in the first five innings before junior
Danielle Dungee hit a pinch-hit solo homer for her first career home run with one out in the sixth inning.
The Warriors left two more runners on base and trailed 4-1 after Kutztown scored in the top of the seventh, but the offense came alive again in the bottom of the inning.
ESU loaded the bases with a walk by senior 1B
Cara McNeil, a fielding error that allowed sophomore SS
Rae Holden to reach, and a walk by senior 2B

Cara Woods followed with an RBI single to left, and an RBI groundout by freshman catcher
Heather Visco plated Holden and made the score 4-3 with one out.
With Smith the tying run on third and Woods representing the winning run on second, Thomas hit a double to right field that scored both runners and gave the Warriors a 5-4 victory.
Nierintz pitched 6.0 innings for Kutztown (2 runs, 1 earned, 9 hits, 4 strikeouts, 4 walks) before Ficara came in after McNeil's leadoff walk.
Mende relieved freshman
Madison Oren (0.2 IP), who made her first career pitching appearance, in the first inning.
Meckes didn't figure into ESU's scoring but was 4-for-4 in the No. 2 spot in the lineup.
GAME 2 - L 5-1Ficara scattered nine ESU hits, and sophomore
Rachael Liguori allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits as both starters threw complete games. Liguori's was her 12th in 14 starts this season.

Sierra Wagner had two hits each for ESU.
The Warriors plated their run in the seventh inning with an RBI single by McNeil.
