ESU Penn Relays history (since 2005)PHILADELPHIA - East Stroudsburg University senior
Christina O'Connor placed third in the college women's high jump with a mark of 5-7 3/4 on Thursday morning at the 121st Annual Penn Relays, held this weekend at historic Franklin Field.
O'Connor was the only non-Division I athlete to place in the top 10. Jailah Mason (Morgan State) broke the meet record at 6-0 1/2, and Ahmenah Richardson (Penn State) was second at 5-11 1/4. O'Connor was the only other competitor to clear a height above 5-6.
O'Connor, a three-time All-American, four-time national qualifier and four-time PSAC champion, is tied for fifth in NCAA Division II this spring with a mark of 5-8, which she hit at least week's All-American Meet at ESU.
O'Connor competed against a field of 42 athletes. Her previous best at the Penn Relays was 5-6, placing sixth of 26 in the Eastern high jump, as a sophomore in 2013.
Her third-place finish is ESU's best in a "college" event at the Penn Relays since Matt Tholis was third in the men's javelin (208-4) in 2012.
ESU hosts the PSAC Outdoor Championships next weekend (Thursday-Saturday, April 30-May 2) at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
