EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University mourns the loss of
Alyssa Oxenford, a former lacrosse student-athlete for the Warriors, who passed away on Saturday, August 22.
Oxenford was diagnosed with Leukemia in May 2014 following her junior year at ESU. She was a Health and Physical Education major and was recognized as part of ESU's senior day in April 2015.
The ESU lacrosse program held a "Be The Match" marrow registry drive in December 2014 in support of Oxenford. Be The Match, operated by the National Marrow Donor Program, manages the largest and most diverse marrow registry in the world. It supports thousands diagnosed every year with blood cancers like Leukemia and Lymphoma.
Oxenford was a three-year starter at defender for ESU since her freshman season in spring 2012, starting all 49 games of her career with the Warriors.
She was a graduate of North Penn High School, where she competed in lacrosse and cross country.
A service to celebrate Alyssa's life will be held on Saturday, August 29 at Grace Lutheran Church, 40 North Main Street, Hatfield PA 19440. A greeting will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. To those celebrating her life, Alyssa asked people to wear bright colors to her service.
