ESU Women’s Volleyball Posts Win vs. Dominican in Wilmington Invitational

WILMINGTON, Del. - East Stroudsburg University won 3-0 vs. Dominican and lost a pair of five-set matches to Merrimack and host Wilmington as the Warriors went 1-2 in non-conference women's volleyball this weekend.

Sophomore outside hitter Desiree Claxton had a pair of big matches with 27 kills vs. Merrimack and 22 vs. Wilmington. She had 61 kills (4.7 per set) and 42 digs in three matches.

Senior libero Maddie Hutchison moved into second in school history with 1,696 with 106 total digs this weekend. She had 38 digs vs. Merrimack, 26 vs. Dominican and 42, the second-most of her career, vs. Wilmington.

Hutchison passed Lindsey Lullo (1,611 digs - 2007-10) on ESU's career digs list. Dawn Peipher holds the school record with 2,574 from 2003-06.

Claxton (27 kills, 20 digs vs. Merrimack) had ESU's first match with 20 kills and 20 digs since 2006, when Nikki LeBlanc had 21 kills and 23 digs vs. Millersville. Her 27 kills are the most by an ESU player since Kaitlin Behrens had 27 vs. Kutztown in a five-set match in 2012.

ESU fell 25-19, 21-25, 28-30, 25-23, 14-16 vs. Merrimack. Hutchison had 38 digs, sophomore setter Erica Cunningham had 32 assists and 17 digs, freshman outside hitter Madison McCunney had nine kills and sophomore middle blocker Erin Gloor had six kills and seven digs for the Warriors.

The Warriors posted a 25-14, 25-15, 25-20 win vs. Dominican led by Claxton's 12 kills and nine digs. McCunney added eight kills, Cunningham had 23 assists and Hutchison 26 digs.

ESU won the first two sets vs. Wilmington but fell 25-17, 29-27, 22-25, 16-25, 4-15 in its final match of the weekend. Claxton had 22 kills and 13 digs and Cunningham recorded 45 assists and 14 digs. McCunney had 16 kills, freshman outside hitter Tina Predojevic had seven kills, eight assists and 23 digs and Hutchison notched 42 digs.

McCunney was ESU's second-leading hitter with 33 digs for the weekend. Cunningham had 100 assists (7.7 per set) and 33 digs.

The Warriors (5-5) open PSAC action next weekend with four matches in western PA against California, IUP, Seton Hill and Clarion.
