Sammi Jo Hughes scored the game's only goal 1:37 into the second half, leading defending PSAC champion East Stroudsburg University to a 1-0 win over Lock Haven in the 2015 season opener on Thursday at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
No. 11-ranked ESU, 20-1-1 last year on the way to its first-ever PSAC regular season title and third PSAC Tournament title, extended its unbeaten streak to 22 games, second-longest in PSAC history, and its winning streak vs. PSAC schools to 19 games, extending a conference record.
Hughes scored her 16th career goal after contributing seven goals during last year's PSAC championship season.
The game was delayed due to lightning for an hour 25 minutes with 26:35 remaining in the second half.
ESU held a 14-10 advantage in shots and sophomore goalkeeper
Jules Harris made six saves for her 10th career shutout (ninth solo). She set school records with nine shutouts and eight solo in 2014.
