EAST STROUDSBURG - Senior forward Ally Roth and junior midfielder Desiraye Mack scored two goals each, leading No. 6-ranked East Stroudsburg University to a 5-1 win over No. 5 Stonehill in the season opener for both schools on Saturday at Whitenight Field.

Roth, a two-time first team All-America selection and the reigning PSAC Offensive Athlete of the Year, scored ESU's first goal and added one of the Warriors' four unanswered goals in the second half.

She has 55 career goals, one from the school record of 56 held by Ashley Kocis (2003-06).

Mack, named to the All-PSAC third team last year, had two goals in the season opener after scoring three goals in 2014. Junior forward Robin Stevenson added ESU's fifth goal with 3:48 remaining.

ESU improves to 10-4 vs. Stonehill in the all-time series. The Skyhawks won the last two years, 8-7 (OT) and 6-5, and made the NCAA DII semifinals last year.

The Warriors limited Erika Kelly, a two-time All-America selection and returning North Region player of the year, to one assist. Kelly has 71 career goals, second-most among active DII players. Roth ranks third on that list.

Roth opened the scoring on an assist from senior midfielder Rebecca Snyder with 11:55 left until halftime. Stonehill answered just under seven minutes later on a goal by Lauren Giordano, assisted by Kelly, to tie the game at 1-1 going into intermission.

Mack gave ESU a 2-1 lead 2:51 into the second half. Roth added an insurance goal, assisted by junior forward Marisa Miro, with less than 15 minutes to go. Mack scored her second goal with 5:16 left.

Junior goalkeeper Danielle Ard made five saves for ESU, which held a 20-10 margin in shots and commanding 15-3 edge in the second half. The Warriors also had a 9-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Sara Freedman made eight saves for Stonehill.

The win is ESU's first against a team ranked ahead of the Warriors in the NFHCA DII poll since September 2013, when they had four such victories.

ESU hosts No. 7 Adelphi, another NCAA Tournament qualifier, on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Panthers fell 1-0 at Bloomsburg on Friday.
