Box ScoreSHIPPENSBURG - Shippensburg scored two goals in the final 4:30 to post a 3-2 win over No. 11-ranked East Stroudsburg University, ending several school and conference record streaks, on Saturday afternoon.
Jenny Litz scored the game-tying goal and assisted on Kat Hartner's game-winning goal with 22 seconds left for Shippensburg (1-0-1, 1-0-1).
ESU (1-1, 1-1), the defending PSAC champion, ended a 22-game unbeaten streak - a school record and the second-longest in PSAC history behind a 23-game streak by West Chester in 2006.
ESU also had a 19-game winning streak and 19-game unbeaten streak vs. PSAC opponents, both the longest in conference history.
The Warriors' 22-game (overall) unbeaten streak was the longest active streak of 243 schools in NCAA Division II.
ESU went 366 days without a loss, from Sept. 4, 2014 (1-0 vs. Kutztown) to Sept. 5, 2015. The Warriors lost their 2014 season opener before winning 20 straight games (18 vs. PSAC schools), including the PSAC championship. ESU was eliminated from the NCAA DII Tournament on penalty kicks after a 0-0 tie vs. WV Wesleyan.
ESU won its season opener, 1-0, vs. Lock Haven on Thursday.
Shippensburg took a 1-0 lead 43 seconds into the game on a goal by Bailey Bzdak, before ESU freshman forward
Alex Pickett tied it at 1-1 with a header on an assist from freshman forward
Cristina Babyak just under five minutes before halftime.
The Warriors went in front, 2-1, on a goal by senior forward
Sammi Jo Hughes in the 56th minute, cleaning up a rebound from sophomore midfielder
Sammi Ortiz. The lead held up until the final five minutes.
ESU had a 20-14 advantage in shots, but Leah Roy had 12 saves for Shippensburg. Sophomore goalkeeper
Jules Harris made five saves for ESU.
Hughes moved into a tie for 10th at ESU in career goals (17) with her second of the season. Pickett's goal was the first of her career.
ESU hosts Mansfield on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Eiler-Martin Stadium.
