EAST STROUDSBURG - East Stroudsburg University won five of the first six bouts, but Gannon emerged with a 22-20 win over the Warriors in a PSAC and NCAA Division II Super Region 1 dual on Friday night at Koehler Fieldhouse.

Junior Joey Kratochvil (157) won by fall and redshirt freshman Collyn Dorney (125) won by technical fall for the Warriors.

Senior Tyson Searer (285) opened the night with a decision, and junior Connor Maliff (133) and redshirt freshman Dylan Nace (141) also won by decision.

Gannon began its rally with a pin by George McGuire at 149 pounds. No. 7-ranked Nate Ross won by decision at 165, Chris Matthews won by decision at 174, Lorenzo Maddox won by major decision at 184 and Ryan Morris won the final bout of the night by ESU disqualification with 45 seconds left in the third period.

At 285, ESU's Searer started the night with a 5-2 decision over Gunner Loughman. Searer improved to 8-6 on the season (3-1 DII), 67-36 in his career and 39-9 in 48 career duals.

Dorney used a big first period (10-1) to post a 19-3 technical fall (6:02) vs. Casey Vollmer at 125. Dorney runs his season record to 11-6.

Maliff rallied for a 7-4 decision vs. Aaron Smith at 133. Dorney trailed 3-0 entering the third period but got an escape, then a takedown with 26 seconds left and four back points to surge in front. Smith picked up his fourth point via riding time.

Nace won 3-1:sv1 over Johnny Moratto at 141, getting a takedown with 10 seconds left in the sudden victory period following an escape early in the third. Nace pushes his record to 12-2 with his first nine bouts on the mat won by bonus points before Friday night.

At 149, McGuire pinned ESU's Blake Cohen midway through the second period (4:43) to get Gannon on the board after ESU led 14-0 through four bouts.

Kratochvil (157) won the first of two bouts between regionally-ranked wrestlers with a third-period fall (6:28) vs. Garret Smith. Kratochvil was ranked No. 5 in the region and Smith No. 4. The score was 2-2 entering the third period, with Smith working towards the riding time advantage when Kratochvil recorded the defensive fall. Kratochvil improves to 8-5 (6-1 DII).

Freshman Josh Deutel nearly upset nationally-ranked Nate Ross at 165 pounds, falling 6-5. Deutel led 2-0 with a 2:05 riding time advantage after the first period, and had a 3-0 edge with the same riding time entering the third after an optional start. Ross rallied with three takedowns in the third while reducing the riding time under a minute.

At 174, Gannon's Matthews led redshirt junior Joe Welk 1-0 entering the third and finished with a 5-2 decision. Matthews was ranked No. 4 in the region with Welk No. 5.

Maddox upset ESU junior Tyler Richardson, ranked No. 3 in the region, by a 15-4 major decision at 184 pounds. Richardson drops to 10-4 overall (3-3 DII) this winter. The result pulled Gannon with 20-16.

At 197, Gannon's Morris led 5-4 midway through the third period before suffering an injury following an unsafe return to the mat. Gannon gained six team points to finish the night in front, 22-20.
