BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Competing in one of the largest cross country meets in the country, East Stroudsburg University held its own against several Division I programs on Saturday morning, with the men placing 26th out of 45 and the women 27th out of 42 in their respective races at Lehigh University's Paul Short Run.
With almost 450 colleges taking part in the meet, the field was split into three separate races, with the ESU squads taking part in the Brown Race. The Warriors also had several runners compete in the open collegiate races held earlier in the morning.
Senior
Alec Lederer placed 28th out of 400 runners to lead the ESU men, who finished above eight Division I programs in the standings. Lederer crossed the line in 25:18, 58 seconds faster than his time at last year's Paul Short event.
Senior
Allison Decker, meanwhile, led the women after finishing 35th out of 373 competitors with a time of 22:01. The Warrior women were ahead of seven D-I squads.
Running on a traditionally fast course, every ESU scorer ran at least 40 seconds faster than their finishing time at the team's most-recent race at Kutztown on Sept. 17.
Lederer was followed on the men's side by senior
Alex Zubko (113th – 25:59), junior
Jeremy Rapposelli (139th – 26:12), senior
Taylor Piekos (173rd – 26:28) and sophomore
Jared Glosser (194th – 26:40). Zubko was over a minute and a half quicker than his time of 27:32.80 at Kutztown.
Junior
Samantha Young (92nd – 22:40), senior
Lauren Toth (149th – 23:12), freshman
Rachel Eidson (184th – 23:38) and junior
Jasmine Amro (230th – 24:14) followed Decker for the women, who had the same top five scorers as they did at Kutztown.
The Warriors now have only one more meet before this year's PSAC Championships on Oct. 22. That meet is the Hamilton College Invitational, which will be held in Clinton, N.Y., next Saturday, Oct. 8.
