LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Sarah Gomish had a match-high 17 kills, and Sydney Belcastro added 26 digs to lead Lock Haven to a tight 3-1 victory over East Stroudsburg University on Friday night. Set scores were 26-24, 23-25, 25-16, 26-24.
Gomish's kill total came with a .341 attack percentage for the Bald Eagles (3-13, 2-6 PSAC). Junior
Desiree Claxton led the Warriors (10-11, 2-6 PSAC) with 16 kills and eight digs, while freshman
Sarah Smith registered a second-straight double-double with 11 kills and 17 digs.
Those 17 digs are a new season-high for Smith, and junior
Rosa Veliky also set a new career-best with a team-high 21 digs for ESU. Sophomore
Tina Predojevic and junior
Erica Cunningham chipped in 12 digs apiece, and freshman
Sam Dunphy was just short of double digits with nine kills.
Claxton reached 10+ kills for a fourth-straight match, while Smith has cracked double figures in five of the past six matches and 15 contests overall.
The Warriors were held to a team attack percentage of .059, compared to .197 for Lock Haven. ESU's best hitting percentage came in the set that it won, with the visitors hitting .190 in the second set, registering kills on 15 of 42 attempts.
The Bald Eagles held a commanding 11-5 advantage in blocks, led by six from Breanna McDonald (1 BS, 5 BA). Each team finished with 75 digs.
ESU remains on the road Saturday afternoon, traveling to Pitt-Johnstown for a 1 p.m. contest. The Mountain Cats (14-5, 7-1 PSAC) earned their seventh-straight victory with a 3-0 win over Kutztown tonight.
