KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Junior
Kaylyn West turned in a first team All-PSAC performance, and four other runners earned second-team All-PSAC accolades on Saturday morning to lead East Stroudsburg University at the 2016 PSAC Cross Country Championships at Kutztown.
West, junior
Samantha Young and senior
Allison Decker were all named All-PSAC for the women, who finished third out of 17 scoring teams, while junior
Jeremy Rapposelli and senior
Alex Zubko were second team All-PSAC to help the men to a sixth place finish out of 16 teams.
The Warrior women have now had at least one runner obtain first team All-PSAC recognition in seven consecutive seasons. West placed 12th out of 163 runners, completing the 6K race in 23:11.80. She vaults up to the first team after landing on the second team with a 26th place effort as a sophomore last fall.
West led the ESU women for a second-straight meet. She earned her first-career individual title after winning the Hamilton Invitational on Oct. 8.
Young, who missed out on All-PSAC accolades by two spots in 2015, came through with a 19th place result this afternoon after crossing the line in 23:29.40. This is the fourth-straight race that she has been the number two scorer for the Warriors. Decker, a two-time first team All-PSAC runner for ESU, qualified for the second team this season after taking 28th place with a time of 23:52.20.
Freshman
Rachel Eidson (41st – 24:10.20) and senior
Lauren Toth (51st – 24:29.80) rounded out the top five for the Warriors.
The ESU women totaled 151 points as a team to hold on to a top three spot after finishing in a program-best second place in 2015. Shippensburg won its eighth PSAC title (first since 2012) with 50 points, while Bloomsburg came in second with 60 points.
On the men's side, Rapposelli topped the Warrior competitors for the first time in his ESU career, completing the 8K race in 26:42.60 to take 21st place out of 134 runners.
Zubko, meanwhile, was second-team All-PSAC for a second-straight year, finishing in 27th with a time of 27:02.40.
Junior
Dan Buccino (41st – 27:23.90), senior
Jeremy Rigotti (53rd – 27:47.20) and senior
Taylor Piekos (54th – 27:48.20) also scored for the Warriors, who improved by one spot from last year's seventh place showing in the conference. Buccino earned the highest team finish of his ESU career.
Each of ESU's top seven runners (including senior
Brad Meixsell and sophomore
Tom Ciaccio) posted a faster time than the team's earlier race at Kutztown this season on Sept. 17.
With 196 points, the Warriors were only seven back of host Kutztown for fifth place. Shippensburg swept both the men's and women's races, taking first on the men's side with 47 points, seven ahead of second-place Lock Haven. This is the second men's title for the Raiders, with the other coming back in 2010.
Select ESU runners will travel to Lock Haven next Saturday to compete in the Lock Haven River Run. The full team returns to action at this year's NCAA regional meet, held on Nov. 5 at Slippery Rock. The top three women's teams and the top four men's squads from the race will qualify for the NCAA championship race on Nov. 19.
