EAST STROUDSBURG – Lauren Beck and Kelsey Ansec had eight kills apiece, and Gannon hit .307 as a team to dispose of East Stroudsburg University 3-0 on Friday night at Koehler Fieldhouse. Set scores were 25-14, 25-15, 25-14.
Freshman
Sarah Smith had nine kills and four digs, while junior
Desiree Claxton totaled eight kills and nine digs to lead the Warriors (11-15, 3-9 PSAC). Smith led the team in kills for a 14th time in 26 matches this season.
The Golden Knights (21-3, 10-2 PSAC), who entered tonight tied with two other teams for the highest winning percentage in PSAC contests, won their fourth match in a row overall.
Gannon quickly took control in each of the first two sets, jumping out to leads of 13-5 in the first and 10-1 in the second.
The third set was tight through the middle stages. A pair of kills by junior
Maddie Reichard highlighted a 4-1 stretch to begin the frame, and a kill from Claxton gave ESU its largest lead of 8-4 shortly afterwards.
The Golden Knights came back to tie the score at 10-10, and the visitors then went on a 13-3 run to put the match out of reach.
Gannon, which leads the PSAC in blocks per set, had a 7-3 edge in that category tonight, led by three apiece from Beck and Ansec.
The Warriors hit .037 as a team, with Smith's .185 attack percentage tops among those with five or more attack attempts.
ESU concludes a five-match home stand on Saturday afternoon, hosting Mercyhurst at 1 p.m. inside Koehler Fieldhouse.
