LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Freshman
Emily Eder finished in the top-10 individually, while freshman
Matt Lloyd was the No. 3 scorer in the men's race as East Stroudsburg University took part in the Lock Haven River Run on Saturday morning.
Lloyd was 15th out of 44 runners overall, as the Warriors placed first out of four scoring teams. Eder was 10th out of 50 runners and the No. 6 scorer in the women's race, with ESU finishing second out of five squads.
"We had a nice day," head coach
Joe Koch said. "We rested some of our top runners, but this was an opportunity for some of the freshmen and sophomores, the future of the program, to get one more race in and they gave us some strong performances."
Lloyd completed the 8k race in 27:16.00, just ahead of sophomore
Jared Glosser in 16th (27:19.50). Junior
Zack Krieger also topped the top 20, placing 19th with a time of 27:45.70.
Among scoring runners, the trio finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Junior
J.P. Montgomery (21st – 27:57.90) and freshman
Khai Samuels (23rd – 28:17.30) rounded out the top five for ESU. They were seventh and ninth among scoring runners.
Lloyd, Krieger and Samuels each scored for the program for the first time in their collegiate careers.
Eder crossed the line in the women's 6k race in 24:31.80. The other four scoring Warriors all placed inside the top 20 as well. Senior
Steph Belbey crossed the line seventh among scoring runners (12th overall) with a time of 24:38.60.
Belbey was followed by freshman
Jenna Vledder (25:31.10), senior
Mary-Kate Killoran (25:45.50) and sophomore
Gabby Rachmaciej (25:58.30). All five women scored for the first time in their ESU careers.
The Warrior men registered a team score of 28 points, eight ahead of Shippensburg in second place. The Shippensburg women topped the standings with 35 points, 16 ahead of ESU's total of 51.
The Warriors will now look ahead to next Saturday's NCAA Regional meet at Slippery Rock, where the top four men's teams and the top three women's squads will qualify for the NCAA National Championship race on Nov. 19. The men's 8k race will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women's 6k competition at 11:45 a.m.
