SLIPPERY ROCK - Senior midfielder
Shea Neal scored the game-tying goal in the 84th minute, helping No. 3-ranked East Stroudsburg University pull out a 1-1 (2OT) tie at Slippery Rock in PSAC women's soccer on Saturday afternoon.
ESU (10-1-1, 10-0-1) trailed for 76 minutes after a goal by Slippery Rock's Dara Demich 7:37 into the game, but rallied behind Neal's game-tying goal with 6:22 left, assisted by junior forward
Molly Vicari.
SRU (7-4-1, 7-2-1) was the first PSAC team to score against ESU since September 3, ending a school-record eight-game PSAC shutout streak that spanned exactly 780:00.
The Warriors trailed in a PSAC game for the first time this season, but got Neal's second goal of the season and the 24th of her career to level the score just in time.
ESU's 10-0 PSAC start was the best in school history, besting a pair of 5-0 starts in 1994 and 2013. The Warriors have a 23-2 goal differential in 11 PSAC games this fall.
Shippensburg had scored the only PSAC goal vs. ESU entering Saturday. The Warriors won 2-1 at Eiler-Martin Stadium five weeks ago, with Ship scoring in the 38th minute before ESU regained the lead four minutes later.
ESU finished with a 14-12 advantage in shots and had a 4-1 edge in the two 10-minute overtime sessions.
Junior goalkeeper
Jules Harris had four saves for ESU. She entered the week ranked fifth in NCAA Division II in save percentage (0.927) and sixth in goals against average (0.303), prior to a 1-0 shutout vs. Kutztown on Wednesday.
Kylie Downs made six saves for SRU.
ESU and Slippery Rock went to overtime for the fifth time in the last seven meetings, which they have split 2-2-3. The Warriors beat SRU, 2-0, in last year's PSAC semifinals at Gannon on the way to their second straight PSAC championship.
The Warriors travel to PSAC leader West Chester (11-0, 11-0) for a 1 p.m. game on Tuesday. WCU has allowed just four goals this season, including a 3-1 win at IUP on Saturday.
