MILLERSVILLE - Senior forward
Robin Stevenson scored the game's only goal with 20:46 left, giving No. 4-ranked East Stroudsburg University a 1-0 win at No. 3 Millersville in PSAC field hockey on Saturday afternoon at Biemesderfer Stadium.
ESU (10-3, 4-1) posted its third straight win vs. Millersville (9-2, 4-1), all three by 1-0 scores, and handed the Marauders their first conference loss of the season. ESU edged Millersville for last year's PSAC championship, and the Warriors (2015) and Marauders (2014) have won the last two NCAA Division II championships.
Stevenson scored her ninth goal of the season and ESU held a 9-8 advantage in shots, including 5-0 in shots on goal. Millersville had a 9-5 margin in penalty corners.
ESU senior goalkeeper
Danielle Ard had her seventh shutout (sixth solo) of the season, making all 13 starts. She had her 19th career shutout (14th solo) in 56 starts.
ESU's win leaves Shippensburg (12-1, 5-0) as the only unbeaten team remaining in PSAC play. Millersville visits Ship next Wednesday.
The Warriors are away on Wednesday next week, traveling to Mansfield, before hosting Seton Hill on Homecoming weekend (October 15) at 1 p.m.
