EAST STROUDSBURG – Junior Desiree Claxton (10 kills, 12 digs) registered her second-straight double-double, and freshmen Sarah Smith and Sam Dunphy added eight kills apiece, but East Stroudsburg University dropped a 3-0 decision to Shippensburg at Koehler Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. Set scores were 25-21, 25-22, 25-14.

Claxton now has four double-doubles this season and 23 in her ESU career. Dunphy's eight kills came with a .313 attack percentage, and she also supplied a team-high three blocks for the Warriors (9-10, 1-5 PSAC).

Annie Goerl had a team-high nine kills for the Raiders (15-3, 4-2 PSAC), who claimed their first PSAC championship in 2015, while Maura Nolan finished with 30 assists.

Shippensburg maintained a slim lead throughout a majority of the first set. The Raiders held a 19-16 edge in the later stages before kills from Claxton and freshman Britney Hewitt, along with a block by Hewitt and Dunphy, helped ESU level up the score for the first time since the match began 1-1.

A pair of aces by Brittany Whitacre then spurred a key 4-0 run for the visitors, and Nolan recorded one of her three kills in the match to finish off the set shortly afterwards.

Both teams struggled offensively in the second set, with each registering negative attack percentages. ESU fell behind 14-7, but used a 6-1 run, capped by a block by Dunphy and junior Courtney Miller, to pull within two at 15-13. The Warriors got as close as one at 22-21 after another block, this time by Miller and Smith, but Shippensburg won three of the final four points to grab a 2-0 set advantage.

The Raiders won 12 of the first 17 points to begin the third set, and ESU could not get closer than five points for the remainder of the contest.

Shippensburg hit .232 as a team for the match, including a .484 rate in set three, while the Warriors had a .127 attack rate.

ESU looks to get back on track on Tuesday evening, traveling to Kutztown for a PSAC Southeast Division contest scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
